Jyoti Kumari Should be Appreciated; But What About Millions of Men?

Recently, a news item was reported in Indian newspaper where a girl cycled 1200 km from Haryana and reached her village in Bihar; also carrying her injured father. Immediately, US President Donald Trump' daughter and senior White House adviser Ivanka Trump praised the girl in a social media post. Thereafter, Cycling Federation of India (CFI) has offered her a trial. [News]

What Jyoti did is definitely praiseworthy. But why do newspapers pickup incidents of courage and strength only from one gender and make it a gender issue every time?

Ever since Lockdown started, millions of migrants are traveling very long distances on foot. Newspapers are filled with hundreds of cases where a man would carry his entire family riding rickshaw cart and travel thousands of kilometers. But such news were not given any limelight like Jyoti's news has been given. In one case a man carried his old mother over his back and walked his way home! In another, a handicapped man traveled 700 kms and reached his village to help his sister who was facing some health issues.

Hundreds of men have shown greater courage than Jyoti Kumari but never got similar kind of attention, praise or support from authorities. This just shows how our society and media are gender biased in favor of women.

Churu, Rajasthan: Policeman Commits Suicide; Apologizes to Female SP

Rajgardh SHO Vishnu Dutt Bisnoi has committed suicide. He has left a suicide note saying that he was not able to handle the pressure. A probe needs to be conducted to find out which pressure he was talking about. There have been letters and chats going viral on social media mentioning that Mr. Bisnoi was being harassed and some forces were trying to frame him.

Bisnoi had served in police department for 21 years. It proves that he knew how to handle stress and pressures. In the police department, he had an image of a "Dabang" Policeman, which also makes this point. In the past whenever he was transferred, people would take up streets to oppose that. It proves that he had good mass support and he did good work too.

Before dying he wrote a letter to the district SP who happens to be a female. In the letter he apologized and mentioned that he was sorry for the step he was taking this step because so much pressure was built around him and that he had tried to give best service till his last breath.

This matter should be probed from all angles; including how the district SP used to treat him. It is often seen that men working under female supervisors are under maximum stress, because the female does not give enough efforts herself and the added workload comes down on the male members. It should also be probed that when he had already made a request to get transferred from that PS, why did he commit suicide. Is it that he was sure that he would not get a transfer? If he was under any pressure or fearing that he was being framed, he must have spoken about it to his supervisor, the female SP. Therefore all angles should be probed.

We demand that an honest CBI enquiry should be done and culprits should be brought in the open.

Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s wife Files for divorce, Accuses His Family and Gets her Hindu Name Back

Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s wife Aaliya has filed for divorce. She has also sent him a notice seeking maintenance and has made some ‘serious allegations’ against him.

Aaliya’s lawyer told Zee News that the notice was sent to Nawazuddin. The notice has been sent claiming maintenance and divorce. I would not like to get into the details of the notice regarding what are the contents and what are the allegations, but let me tell you that the allegations are quite serious and those are very sensitive to Mr Siddiqui as well as his family members,” the lawyer said.

Nawazuddin and Aaliya have been married for 10 years and have two children together. [Source]

Aaliya told news channel ABP in an interview, “I sent divorce notice to Nawaz 15 days back, but people don’t know that we have been living apart since the last 4-5 years. After separation, Nawazuddin mostly used to stay at his office in Yari Road near our house. However, he continued to visit our home and people believed that we live together and are happy with each other.”

Aaliya also accused the actor’s brother Shamas of violence in a recent interview. [Source]

Just like other Muslim actors of India, Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui had married a Hindu woman who converted into Islam post marriage, changed her name, and their two children became Muslim by birth. This trend was akin to the 'Love Jihad'.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui's wife Aaliya Siddiqui had changed her name post marriage in 2009. She is a Hindu by birth whereas Nawaz is a Muslim. In her latest statement, she has confirmed going back to her birth name. [Source]

Bihar: Men Committing Suicides in Quarantine Centers

Reading local newspapers in Bihar, I can notice large number of suicide cases in Coronavirus crisis related quarantine centers. I am not sure but there may be similar cases all across India.

A man travelled on his motorcycle from Mumbai to Bihar; reached his "sasural" (in-laws) place but his wife's family declined to offer him home-quarantine and sent him to a nearby Quarantine center. Frustrated and depressed due to this, he committed suicide by pouring petrol taken from his motorcycle and burned himself. [News]

Recently, another 30-year old man, who had returned from Delhi recently by a Sharmik special train, committed suicide at Hajipur in Vaishali district on Wednesday. Rajesh Kumar had been working as a migrant labourer in Delhi. Sources said Kumar was placed under quarantine in Dighi a few days ago after he returned. He was frustrated after being put in quarantine for the second time as he was sent to a quarantine centre in Delhi as well. [News]

This is not an isolated case of a migrant worker committing suicide. Another migrant worker from Musahari block in Muzaffarpur had committed suicide on Tuesday after his family members refused him entry into the house and asked him to return only after completing the 14-day mandatory quarantine at a nearby centre.

Sources said at least half a dozen similar cases of suicide have been reported in the state ever since migrant workers started arriving from other states. Taking a note of this disconcerting trend, the State Health Society has decided to provide counselling facility at quarantine centres.

A senior officer of the state health department said 400 personnel, including psychiatrists, doctors, para-medical staff, family planning and Aids control programme counsellors and district mental health workers were being trained through video conferencing. [News]
